The information in this email ONLY applies to Town of Jacksonport property owners. Clark Lake residents in Sevastopol need to contact the Town at 920-746-1230 on the status of their agreement with Bug Tussel, their selected provider.
The Jacksonport Town Board established a Technology Committee to purse high speed internet on January 25, 2022 and the committee’s first meeting was held on February 25, 2022. Since then, we have meet 32 times to develop an overall strategy, requirements for proposals from vendors and a method to rate proposals. The Committee ultimately recommended the Town select Frontier Communications as the provider. Their proposed project cost was estimated to be $3,500,000. The Town Board authorized and the voters approved borrowing up to $1,750,000 at a special electors meeting, which was 50% of the project cost of $3,500,000. Frontier committed to spend $1,750,000. Subsequent to that action the Town and Frontier submitted a request for a $500,000 grant from the Wisconsin Public Service Commission to help offset costs, which was approved.
The Committee and the Town’s attorneys negotiated over several months to develop an acceptable contract which was approved on May 23, 2023. The Town is now waiting to receive a signed contract.
Once that is done Frontier will start the engineering design process. It is likely that
portion of the project will be completed by the end of summer and hopefully construction will then begin. Until the design is done, we have no idea which areas will get service first and how long the entire project will take. It is expected to be completed 24 months after construction begins.
Frontier’s fees and charges are outlined below. The One Time Charge is going to be placed on the first customer bill and refunded by the Town upon submission of a paid receipt.
We hope that the first customers will start receiving service sometime this fall. The Town of Jacksonport is the second town or village (except Washington Island) to enter into a contract to provide fiber service to all of its E-911 addresses.
The Committee will be providing an update on the status of the project in several months once the engineering design is completed.
